When it comes to lip products MAC is top on my list. MAC has one of the best matte formulas.
The quality, texture and color payoff are worth admiring. I am biased towards matte finish lipsticks and when it comes to this texture MAC is my favourite as it has both creamy matte and dry matte i.e Retro Matte texture lipsticks. I have been meaning to do this post since quite some time as I am always posting pictures of MAC lipsticks on Instagram.
Before moving forward I hope you guys know the drill for wearing matte lipsticks.
Exfoliate and moisturize the lips
Blot the moisturizer/lip blam or keep it
Outline and fill the lips with a Lip Liner
Apply the lip color – Blot – Apply it again.
Mac Diva is a must have deep berry shade for fall. Just one swipe and you get this intense, rich dark berry color. Diva is a bold shade and one has to be really confident to carry it. This particular shade goes perfectly with dark hued outfits. A black outfit and diva is a match made in heaven. I have even dared to wear it with a pastel cape recently. A perfect shade for late-evening or night parties.
Mac Ruby Woo
Very matte vivid blue – red
That cult lipstick and as listed on Mac Cosmetics website one of their best-selling products. Ruby woo also happens to be on top on my list of lip products. I haven’t yet come across a girl or woman who didn’t like Ruby Woo. Ruby Woo has zero sheen has almost a crayon like texture and will go super matte on the lips. Since it is a cool toned red the color appears different on people with different undertones. The texture might be a topic of debate but nevertheless the color payoff and the way it brightens up the face overshadows its minor cons.
Mac Russian Red
If one was to choose between Ruby woo and Russian red it would be impossible as I feel both these shades of red are a must have in your vanity. While I prefer wearing Ruby woo during the day Russian red is perfect for evenings.
Mac Viva Glam III
Viva Glam III is the latest addition to my collection.
It’s a stunning deep brown plum and a perfect fall shade looks flattering on warm skin tones. In case you are looking for something a little subtle than Diva then Viva Glam III is the one. The staying power is really great almost 6 hours with slight fading after meals.
Mac Relentlessly Red
Bright pinkish coral matte
Relentlessly Red is a beautiful bright pink with red undertones almost on the verge of being neon. It’s a great summer shade. I just have one complain with this lipstick don’t know if it’s just with the tube I got or with all relentlessly red lipsticks but I find it slightly more drying than other retro matte lipsticks. Also to achieve an opaque look on pigmented lips more that 2-3 swipes are required. It does look flaky on lips after few hours of wear.
Mac Flat Out Fabulous
Bright plum matte
A beautiful bright fuchsia plum/purple shade. A really gorgeous shade to invest in, immediately brightens up the face and goes beautifully with all skin tones. A very classy and sophisticated shade, one to guarantee you compliments. Although Flat out is from the retro matte range it clearly is a slightly creamier than its counterparts. A close dupe I came across recently is Colorbar Lip definer pencil in Berry Rose but it has less plum undertones. I use it as a liner with Flat out.
Dirty blue pink
One of my everyday lip colors I usually pair it with Mac Soar lip liner or Inglot mate lip crayon. A pretty cool toned rosy pink shade. Mehr will suit fair to medium skin tones might wash out dusky tones.
Mac Velvet Teddy
A really great nude shade for light to medium skin tones. The formula of Velvet Teddy is pretty moisturizing. A great shade to go with smokey eyes look. I always prefer wearing it with some eye makeup or else it washes me out.
So these are my go to MAC matte lipsticks from the permanent line. All the shades mentioned have great pigmentation and are opaque in one swipe. I have deliberately not included any limited edition lipsticks. I hope my list of MAC matte lipsticks is helpful do let me know about your favourite MAC matte shades.
