Velvet Dress – Zara | Black Dress – ASOS | Belt – H&M | Bag – Prada | Shoes – Zara
If you are a fashion trend watcher/follower like me then you must have observed that if there is any fall/winter – 16 trend which the fashion community has embraced with great enthusiasm, it’s the velvet trend. This luxe fabric was seen on the runway in major designers collections. If you go through fashion archives velvet is quintessentially a 90’s trend and was quite huge back then.
When compared to Indian fashion scenario velvet is not new as it is a go to fabric for opulent wedding wear in both women occasion wear, bridal wear as well as menswear. But when it comes to western wear velvet can be quite tricky to pull of. Sporting a velvet dress is not as simple as wearing a lehenga or anarkali with velvet accents. A lot of styling expertise is involved when wearing velvet in daily routine outfits.
As the fabric itself looks rich and opulent, hence the trick is to tone down the look. For this outfit I opted for a crushed velvet dress in a beautiful hue and to tone down the look I layered it with a black midi dress and belted it to add some interest to the look. Keeping the accessories neutral I completed the look with a pair of pumps and my saffiano bag.
