The curious case of our bags shrinking in size is becoming even more interesting with the recent fashion season. When Jacquemus first introduced the Le Sac Chiquito, a miniature 3-inch top-handle purse, on the Spring/Summer 2018 runway it went on to instantly become Insta famous and still enjoys the same fame.
Some loving it and some hating it instantly, Fashion has always been obsessed with the extremes, be it chunky dad sneakers, oversized hats or tiny sunglasses all of these still remain to be on trend. Over the years bags have steadily grown in size, this time designers have gone to the extreme end with the micro bags trend.
For his AW19 presentation, Simon Porte Jacquemus introduced an even tinier version of the brand’s micro Chiquito bags. But its not only Jacquemus who has played with the idea of a miniature purse, micro bags were seen on the SPRING/SUMMER 2019 collections of ERDEM, GABRIELA HEARST, GIVENCHY, MARK CROSS, BOYY, MARC JACOBS..etc. A few seasons back Fendi also featured a shrunken version of their signature Peekaboo as bag charms.
In reality of course, micro bags are not the most practical of bags, then are these bags actually bags or merely an accessory which looks like a bag. Other than just wearing it as an accessory, there are a couple of ways to sport a micro bag for e.g. carrying it around with your essentials in net or a PVC purse or using it as a belt bag more of a waist accessory.
